Evelyn was Don Goodwin's live-in "care-giver" for many years and after Don's death, Ernest "Ernie" Leedham, Evelyn's companion & business partner continued to run the Checker Books for Sale business from the Estate of Donald Goodwin & home who died at age 86 in 2004. After Evelyn's death Ernest Leedman continued the business until June 2017. He closed out the business and gifted the bulk of the books to Toronto Schools and moved out of Don's home on 16 Romac Dr, Toronto, Ontario in July 2017. Leedham gave possession to the home to Goodwin's relatives, "several cousins" who wanted Leedham to move out.
